Alan Woodworks started off as a curiosity to satisfy the nagging desire to create something with my hands. After a lengthy stint in the coffee and food industry, weathering the storm of running a small café during a COVID pandemic made me realize that this industry was no longer fulfilling me the way that it used to. I made a choice to leave what was familiar to me to take a leap into woodworking and haven’t looked back since. Born and raised in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, I have always had a deep appreciation for the forests that we so easily take for granted. In an increasingly mass-produced world that emphasizes quick and cheap at the expense of our environment and skilled makers, I find it even more important to slow down to appreciate the art of woodworking. It is extremely gratifying to see the intricacies different woods offer and create timeless pieces of fine craftsmanship that will last a lifetime. I am particularly drawn to the complexity of Japanese wood joinery. Getting lost in the problem-solving process to take a piece from start to finish is a meditative process for me. I look forward to working with you in creating beautiful pieces of fine furniture for your home that will be appreciated for generations to come.
